A Japanese music club comprising of music journalists, music scholars, musicians and DJs has sent in an appeal to the music fraternity around the globe to send in messages of encouragement to sustain the Japanese people in their time of adversity. The following is a message from Takako Inoue, musician and scholar, who has a PhD in Indian classical music and is a senior member of the club.

“The Japanese people have been met with a great disaster with the Tohoku earthquake which hit Tohoku and Kanto region in Japan on March 11. As persons involved in music, what we can do under such circumstances may be limited. But at least we should start from the smallest things we can actually carry out"

“In the process of recovering and rebuilding Japan after this difficult situation, there is no questioning that music will play a significant role by healing the souls of many and by providing courage to many more”

“We have received some prompt messages from many artistes including the Rolling Stones, Cyndi Lauper, Helen Merrill and more...”

“To all music lovers around the world, please send your own encouraging messages to us! Let’s put our hands together, believe in the power of music, and try to do what we can do step by step”.
