Apoorv, the latest singing sensation to hit  India's music scene, started off as a management student with a passion for music and decided to turn his passion into a career. Verus Ferreira met up with Apoorv Gupta and spoke to him on his debut album and what else he’s been upto in the music scene.

How do you feel about releasing your debut album?
I am ecstatic knowing that my efforts have paid off so well. Music is my passion and my first love. This album is a compilation of songs that are very close to my heart. I believe that love conquers all and it is the only emotion that has the power to influence people immensely. My music and the lyrics of the songs portray exactly that - an all encompassing emotion that is capable of bringing about immense metamorphosis in whoever opens his or her heart to it.

Going back in time, how did you get into music?
I have been fond of music & singing ever since my childhood, I recall my early days when I used to love to hum songs of Kishore Kumar & Sonu Nigam. By the time I was 14 years old I was performing on stage. These live performances instilled a lot of confidence in me and gradually I started to enjoy the euphoria. That's when I realized that music was my single biggest passion, that it brought immense joy to me and I decided to pursue singing.

Was anyone in your family into music?
No, I've have no musical influence in family. I would say I am the most musical person in my family.

How long did this album take to record? What was your contribution?
It took me a while to gather enough courage to put together this album. The first 5 songs took close to a year, I learnt a lot there. Those learnings were very helpful to chart out a future plan. Ek Ladki and Teri Palkein took me about a month

Besides singing on the album, were you given freedom to do what you like or was the company part of your guide?
Yes indeed, I've done what I love the most. The Music Company Venus & the Producers of this project Sampoorna were really helpful in guiding me thru this.

Being a management student, do you plan to make music your career or just take it as a hobby?
Music is very close to me but would always be my single biggest hobby. I would definitely take it forward along with my business ambitions.

You have shot two music videos to support your album, where did you shoot them?
Ek Ladki was shot on the beaches of Goa while Teri Palkein was shot at Kalaghoda and Bandra in Mumbai.

How was shooting the videos for the first time? Did you have a say in the making of the video or was it the director?
I was in front of the camera for the first time ever, so I was definitely overwhelmed. I must admit it was too much excitement to handle, it made me a tad bit nervous and conscious at first. I had the good fortune of experienced Directors like Kookie Gulati & Ajay Arora and they made me very comfortable on the sets. With experts like them around, I was assured of the best output. I was very happy with their decisions and never felt the need to interfere.

With new music stars emerging every few days and albums releasing by new artists, what will make you album stand out from other albums?
I feel my album has a freshness that has been missing for a while in the non-film music space. These are true blue romantic songs that provide wholesome entertainment and a memorable viewing or a listening experience. However, I feel the listeners will be the best judge.

Which is your fav track from the album?
I love all the songs but feel my best output was delivered in 'Ek Ladki' and 'Teri Palkein'

The songs on the album are soulful and mid tempo. Are they your personal experiences put into music?
No. It was really the feel and the flavor that we wanted to showcased. I love romantic songs the most and thought what better way to start than with some nice soulful numbers.

Where do you see yourself in a couple of years......a management student or a musician/ singer? Do you also play any instrument?
Most definitely a successful business man, and an established singer.

How did you get this chance to sign on with Venus? What is the deal?
I did my audition with Venus Tapes & Records. Champak & Dilip Jain ji at Venus were very encouraging, they liked the audition and gave me this opportunity. They have really been at the forefront to promote new talent.
