Nokia Music Connects, 26 Aug 2009, Mumbai 150 songs! 10 hrs. of NON STOP Music! Includes the HIT songs 'Ayka Dajiba' from SAGARIKA Music & the latest STRINGS Album - Koi Aanay Wala Hai from SONY BMG jagjit Singh

Hard Rock Café’s in Mumbai and Delhi have recently hosted a sensational Pink Floyd tribute band not surprising called – Think Floyd. The band might just be our country’s first ‘supergroup’ in rock music. Featuring  immensely talented musicians from our country’s foremost bands – Parikrama, Advaita & Themclones and a couple of backing singers provided by Artistes Unlimited  - the group enthralled audiences with perfect renditions of Pink Floyd repertoire.  Think Floyd was shaped about 3 ½ years ago after a chance summon to play at an outdoor college gig and this Mumbai gig was just their 2nd performance (1st in Delhi Hard Rock Cafe) after all those years. It is hard to believe. We are all hardcore Floyd fanatics – says the drummer from Themclones, Surojit Dev – and that probably explains why they sound so delightfully tight. It is hard to bring them together for a performance, the ensemble tours most of the year with their respective bands.

The quintessential Indian PINK FLOYD   - A Tribute

L to R - Gulshan Bawra, OP Nayyar & Anandji

Chintan Kalra, the Parikrama bassist is spot-on as the lead vocalist of this specialist band and looked like the missing member of Pink Floyd – possessed and terrifyingly accurate.  Advaita contributes significantly with 4 members shimmering in their roles - guitarists Gaurav Chintamani & Abhishek Mathur, vocalist and guitarist, Chayan Adhikari and Anindo Bose on keyboards.

The visual imagery masterminded by Abhishek Sanyal added magnificently to the night. The entry was a stiff 1000 rupees on the day of the show and we couldn’t spot one person who wasn’t singing along atleast once. Think Floyd touched upon some great songs including …… The second half of the show was devoted to playing in entirety “The Dark Side Of The Moon” – the world’s greatest and best selling rock album. The perennial favourites Wish You Were Here, Another Brick In The Wall and Comfortably Numb was met with unified singalong voices of the ecstatic crowd – swaying with their poison of the night in one hand.

L to R - Hassan Kamaal, Omi Sonik, O.P.Nayyar & Gulshan Bawra

A special moment in the night was when a collage of Asheem Chakravarty’s videos and images started rolling on screen as the band played “Wish You Were Here”. It was a touching gesture from one great band to a legendary musician who is no more with us. God rest him in peace.

The band awaits further opportunities to perform. Meanwhile, HRC is pleased as punch with the success of the gigs and hopefully we could see Think Floyd again in action soon.
